Summers Out East

Memories, Reflection and Inspiration

Summer is in full swing. Arguably one of my favorite times of the year, especially here on the East End of Long Island. As some may already know, I grew up ‘Out East’ for most of my life and before moving here with my family when I was eight, we often summered and spent holidays here with my grandparents.

There are many things I love out here but the fond memories and the moments I wait for, a lot of them being in the summer, truly speak to my heart. It’s the smell of the salt air as you’re driving to the ocean, feeling that ever so slight breeze and smell of honeysuckle in the air. Picking strawberries in the fields or buying them at the small local farm stand in Sagaponack. Not the mention the lobster and fresh local corn-on-the-cob, yum. We are fortunate to have the ocean on one side and the bay with lots of smaller waterways on the other side of the island. (If you’ve never been here, put it on your to-do list, you won’t be disappointed.)

These beautiful bodies of water, surrounding farm fields and lush wooded areas are the constant inspiration for my art, in all it’s forms and mediums. Past and present collections speak of the beauty I see and experience on a regular basis, whether it’s elements of nature that find there way into my abstract paintings through patterns, colors and forms; or my watercolor paintings and drawings which are expressed through the representation and details of the natural beauty surrounding me.

I am currently starting a new collection of Summer Moments which will pay homage to this place that I love. The place where I have so many memories with my family, raising my children and the honor of being able to live and experience this beautiful place, out east.
